More than two out of every five fresh Covid cases in India last week were detected either in Kerala or Maharashtra. The two states did not just account for a bulk of all cases but also recorded a slight rise in infections as against a steep 21% week-on-week fall in numbers in the rest of the country. As a result, the share of Kerala and Maharashtra in India’s weekly cases rose from 38% in the previous week (December 21-27) to 44% in the week just gone by (December 28-January 3).
